Landrace pigs are renowned for their exceptional mothering abilities and large litter sizes. These white, long-bodied pigs produce lean meat and are highly efficient breeders. Key Traits

  • General Health: Landrace are generally healthy but susceptible to respiratory diseases and foot issues in damp conditions. Regular vaccinations, biosecurity, and dry bedding are essential.
  • Feeding Requirements: Require 2.5–3.5 kg of feed daily, including grains, protein supplements, and vitamins. Balanced diets support litter size and milk production.
  • Production: Sows produce 10–14 piglets per litter, with lean carcasses from gilts reaching 80–100 kg in 5–6 months for meat markets.
  • Temperament: Calm and docile, Landrace sows are excellent mothers, though gilts may require gentle handling to adapt to farm routines.
